change in lifestyle

First off, this is not a story. The events I enter here have really happened. I am not searching for pity, but I feel I owe all of you an explanation of why I haven't been around 'til last week.

I was doing some magic shows in the Minneapolis area during the first week of November. All was going well, when I noticed a little sore on the inside of my right heel. I didn't think much of it, but cleaned it up and applied some medical cream on it, and went on with my day. The next day the sore had gotten larger and redness surrounded it. I did the same thing as the day before, and hoped this was as infected as it would get. The sore was larger and redder the next day, and I began to worry. I called a good friend of mine who's a magician, and told her of my problem. She asked me if it hurt, and I told her no, then she said yes, she could take my place if need be. She knew my show very well, as she had been with me for many years before the economy got bad.

We booked her a flight to join me, then I went on And did my shows for the day. At the end of the day the inner side of my foot was red up the length of my foot, and the sore was turning a dark gray. It was time for me to go home and get this taken care of. The next morning I booked a flight home, and arrived late Saturday night. I went to the emergency room, saw the doctors there, and was admitted right away. The next day I was operated on. They dug out the infection, and wrapped me up, not yet taking my foot.

Two days later I was under the knife again. This time, they cut off about half my right leg. I no longer have a right foot, or half my calf. They let the end of my leg partially open to let the left-over infection drain. And then, three days later they operated again to close the end of my leg. They kept me in the hospital 'til November 18th. Since then I've been home, under the care of a nurse, a physical therapist, and an occupational therapist. I been learning how to get around using a walker or a wheelchair. I'll not bore you with the details.

The doctors tell me that if I had waited a few more days I would have died. They say gangrene set in, and it was going septic(going to get into my blood stream.)I'm just now bringing myself to talk about it to my friends. I'm not to depressed though, I'm trying to keep a positive attitude. Everything happens for a reason, RIGHT. I sure hope it's true.

Well, there it is, the reason why I've been gone for awhile. But now I'm back. I'm not back to work yet, but I'm here and alive. I'm taking it all day by day. Blessed Be to you all.

At first reading this I thought a real bad foot problem. Can't imagine it being that badly infected. So glad you went to the doctor when you did because I probably would of done the same thing. Hugs to you and glad that you are on the road of recovery!

Glad that you went to see the Dr. when you did, the alternative would have not been good. I hope you spring back fast, I think you will overcome this in no time. My best friend lost a leg below the knee in an accident, he gets around better than I do sometimes, lol. You take care and hang in there. Thanks for letting us know where you have been and how you are doing. I am glad to hear that you are alive.

Bless you, S. It won't matter at all to those who know you, or who get to know you. To those to whom it does matter? F 'em.

I just wanna know how long it will be before you get back to work? What kind of prosthetic are they thinking about (even if it is too soon to actually try anything on)? Are you researching what's out there?

You have a huge fan club here, ya know. All ya have to do is ask for our help!

Just make sure you follow doctor's orders - this is no time for herbal / holistic remedies...

So sorry to hear of your troubles. I was wondering where you had been, never thinking it would be a medical problem. I wish you a good holiday on the solstice
