Two months of hell...
Two months of hell... Well, I went to Walmart this evening just to buy some paper towels, and (as expected) they already had their Christmas decorations up, and Christmas music playing. Slowly but surely, Christmas is devouring other holidays... Halloween has survived the Yuletide assault so far because the stores can make money on cheap decorations, costumes and lots and lots of candy. Thanksgiving isn't a holiday for anything but food and family, so the stores have come to completely ignore it, 'cause they can't really profit off of it. As it is, I hate Christmas music, mostly for the consumer whoreism that it's come to represent. Usually it just gets on my nerves, for the fact they play it EVERY-FUCKING-WHERE for TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT. Now, however, it seems to have gotten worse... just one song in Walmart, and it was like it was assaulting my soul... I got a headache and slightly nauseous after only about 30 seconds of Christmas music, and it took all I had to finish my purchase and not just drop the paper towels and run out of there as quickly as possible. It seems I've developed some kind of mental allergy to holiday music, which does NOT bode well for me, 'cause normally the casino starts playing constant holiday music starting the beginning of December, at the latest. This could be very, very bad for me. |

I completely agree... as someone who works in a building where the onslaught of Christmas tunes will soon be assaulting myself and my co-workers... the constant barrage of yuletide wishes ruins the holiday for me. Not only do have a birthday 11 days before the big event (thus many dreaded "combo' gifts), I work retail and I do NOT feel jolly. I have to listen to holiday jingles all day at work, and get frustrated, nay angry, to have to do my own errands and be forced to even more musical cheer. Retailers think it puts customers "in the mood to shop", but it really just brings down the moral of employees, who now don't want to go and shop anywhere, and honestly.... do customers really appreciate it? Maybe one song an hour, or half hour... but constantly? No wonder my nerves are completely shot by the time Christmas rolls around. The best thing about Christmas? The music stops the next day...
