 everyone around me seems to have their faces buried in their cellphones....so i think the walking zombies are already here...I can out run them...

 Oh, well. There are several forms of zombies depending on the way they were created. But we'll take a generic undead with a taste for brains.
There are four things we have to worry about.
1. Protection: guns will run out of bullets long before my blades run out of sharp, so stock up on big machetes, axes.
2. Shelter: my house has shutters to keep them out as well as clear views to see them coming.
3 Food water: we have our own well, garden and canning/freeze drying to use natures bounty in the lean times.
4 knowledge: when the internet goes down, what you going to do? I've got paper books on survival and self sufficiency as well as maps.

When the apocalypse comes. I'll be ready.
