Does IM work for standard members?

Just got on this site and navigating my way through. The IM feature does not work for . Is that because I am a standard member?

 You'll need points, as it costs 15 points per message for a standard member, even to answer an IM from a gold member. The site may raise the number of points again at some point.

 Welcome to blog-Land. I M's here are a joke. Costs points to use and most generally, doesn't work all that well if at all.

Stick with using blogs to communicate. So far still a free use. I bet, that will change soon as well.
