The gauntlet has been thrown down...
Or I have received a challenge
Of course, me being me...I can never turn down a challenge
Especially a musical challenge
The challenge came from a young lady by the name of Indi297
If you were reading me yesterday you might have noticed the following comment from that young lady:
Spudsy now you know why I hop in my car every weekend and take off somewhere. Driving down the highway, tunes blaring, windows open, got my shades on and not a care in the world at that moment in time...
OK I have a challenge for you which I think would be so cool. Since you are the music connoisseur, I challenge you to make me a CD. Maybe read my blog a little or ask me questions to see what you would put on there. Next trip, I'll pop it into my CD player in the car and blast away! Just me and Spudsy travelin down the road........ interested???? Then I can make one for you!
Doesn't she talk in a nice shade of pink, people??
This challenge had me scratching my head a little..... I decided that the best way to approach it was rather than try to figure out her inner workings (because if I could figure out women's inner workings I wouldn't be spending my life sitting here blogging ) I'd take her 20 most recent posts and pick a playlist based on what I would have called them had they been mine...
You may have noticed that my titles are all songs or lyrics for the most part lol
Yeah Yeah Yeah...take the easy way out right??
So anyway....I here by present to you Indi's Blog Playlist.....

I had a pretty good morning this morning
The kind of morning that you appreciate more when things have been…..difficult.
I actually got out of the office for a few hours.
Had to go to a meeting, pick up some stuff and do a little field work….
Actually did a complete circuit of the city believe it or not lmao
Pretty good going for a 3 hour trek all things considered
I do enjoy going for a drive like that, when you’re not pressed for time and no one is bugging you on the phone
It’s actually quite relaxing to be on your own with no deadlines to meet, the sun shining and the stereo blasting
I came back all soothed and relaxed…which is a nice change…..
There’s something about being completely alone without interruption that I really enjoy. It gives me time to get my thoughts in order, put some perspective on things. Especially if something is bothering me. There’s nothing worse than being in the middle of a thought like that and getting interrupted You don’t realize how little “alone” time you actually get in a day…..if you don’t believe me just think about it tomorrow as you go around your daily routine.
There’s always someone around, or a phone call, or a job to be done that requires thinking.
I had a CD of myself blaring….I burnt myself a copy of a bunch of country songs I had covered and that’s what was going full blast lol
That’s one of my “things”….lol
I’ve been recording myself since way back lol
I started out on a tape to tape deck when I was a …(remember those???)
Double, triple and quadruple tracking myself on various instruments…but of course as you can imagine the quality was terrible…
When I finally got a computer at home a few years ago I started experimenting with some freeware software, which allows you to do multi track recording…just like they do in the professional studios
So that’s my hobby, when I’m not reading or doing stuff around the house
So I sometimes pick a random selection of 20 songs or so to burn…since my truck stereo doesn’t play mp3s and I can’t be bothered lugging the mp3 player around…I always forget to take it out of the truck
This time I picked a bunch of country stuff……unfortunately everything I play winds up sounding like heavy rock anyway
lmao
But it’s amazing how just driving along with music playing can bring back some happy memories….
Sometimes it’s the song, or a snatch of lyrics, or the weather, or the location or any combination of the preceding combined with the “mindless” activity of driving from point A to point B that sparks a memory or a feeling
Thankfully, the thoughts generated were all good ones.
Sometimes all you need is a little peace and quiet and some happy memories to brighten up your day….
Even if you are listening to country
Lmao
Well I think that’s enough for today…I should quit while I’m ahead I think
Later folks!

Before I start let me give you some advice....
Get your ass to your local ticket provider and buy a ticket to see "The Wall".
You will NEVER see a spectacle like that again.....
Wow!
Without a shadow of a doubt the BEST show I have EVER seen And I've seen some pretty amazing shows
At long last the technology available has caught up with the ideas of the producers. The visual aspect of the show was phenomenal
Now, as you know I'm pretty biased about this particular piece anyway, but I'm going to attempt to look at it somewhat objectively since most of you lot aren't as....how can I put it?...rabidly enthused about the concept as I am
Ok, here goes then...wish me luck
I'm sitting way up in the back corner of the arena....323 for those in the know
My only complaint?
The PA stage right from that angle was hanging right in front of the giant central screen.....but to be honest that didn't even detract from the show...there was so much going on elsewhere on the stage that it didn't really matter....and being the guy that I am....mostly the centre screen was showing parts of the projections that when you've seen the movie as many times as I have, generally you know what's being shown without even looking
Other than that, the view was great from up there
Let's face it....how can you NOT see a 40 foot high wall???? lmao
Actually I was sitting right beside the plane I could almost have reached out and touched it lol
Luckily I restrained myself lol
"Would you like to learn to fly? Would you like to see me try?"
On an unrelated note.....I usually sit in the lower bowl....That's the first time I've been up there for a show...the MTS Centre looks really big from up there...lol From the lower bowl it doesn't look that big lol
The show starts with the wall complete to the left and the right, with the centre exposed. During the course of the show the centre is filled in slowly, brick by brick.
"All in all, you're just another brick in the wall"
Roger Waters himself seemed to be enjoying it...at one point he sang with a recorded version of himself from 1980 projected on the wall behind him...
In his words he was playing with the "younger, fucked up version of Roger" lol
A nod to his egotistical, fucked-upness of the late 70s and early 80s which contributed to the break up of the band.
For those who don't know....The Wall is semi autobiographical.....amazing when you consider that the guy writing it could see all this stuff happening to himself and produce a piece of work like that detailing it...yet still have his personal life so screwed up....and be powerless (or unwilling) to do anything about it
"Can you see the writing on the wall?"
The wall is used as a giant movie screen....four banks of projectors show images on the wall....words can't describe what this looks like...it is incredible....
Add to that the "surround sound" effect utilised for the special effects - Helicopters, planes, etc.. truly amazing....
This isn't just a rock concert....it is a SHOW.....
Broadway meets movies meets rock concert meets....everything
Even the videos posted on that video place don't do it justice... This thing has to be "experienced" to be believed....
The sound was amazing too....crystal clear even up in the rafters
I just can't say enough about how good this show was....
And I haven't even mentioned the giant flying pig or the huge "teacher" or "wife" puppets...lol
And don't forget the local brought out during "another Brick In The Wall Part 2" to do a choreographed routine with Waters and the giant "teacher" puppet......very cool
I'm realising that you can't adequately describe the scale of this show in words....so I think I should stop trying
Let me put it this way....if I had money to burn...I'd be there again tonight
One confession before I go though....
I was almost in tears during "Comfortably Numb"....
That song is beautiful in a very strange way....there's nothing "nice" about it...it's basically "The Doctor" getting Pink into a fit state to do his show....but it is beautiful...
"There is no pain, you are receding, a distant ship's smoke on the horizon"
And the solos?
I didn't think anyone could wring as much emotion out of those solos as David Gilmour did....but whoever played them last night....wow!!!!
The free press even gave it 5 stars....I think the reviewer was even at the same show as the rest of us for a change
So all in all an incredible night
I can die happy now......

Hey you lot!
Today is the day!
Only 6 more hours till the show
I managed to keep away from checking out video clips till last night….OMFG!
It looks incredible….
Technology has caught up with the ideas now….wow!
So that’ll be tomorrow’s blog taken care of lol
But what am I going to do today??
Ummmm…. I have a feeling I had an idea earlier…but I can’t remember what it was now….
I guess it wasn’t important…or interesting lol
Or maybe it was bitchy and I suppressed it right out of my head….
Who knows?
I do that lots….
If I blogged my true feelings when I felt like it, I’d be up to about four thousand posts by now lol
But I’m not about negativity.
I resist the temptation to load you all up with MY problems lol
Aren’t you lucky??
I’m not really the touchy feely type….
I’ll probably get jumped on for this, but I’m more the “strong, silent type”….
Like in the old movies….the guy that walks away, or sacrifices his dreams or gives up his stuff to help others achieve their dreams….
Or the classic image of the clown…laughing on the outside and crying on the inside….
The show must go on right??
The bit you DON’T see in the old movies is when he finally snaps and goes “postal” lol
But anyway….enough of the dark and depressing
There’s been a little too much of that around The Potato’s Lair of late….
What’s the excuse?
Maybe I was practicing for tonight
You have to be suitably mentally prepared to listen to The Wall in it’s entirety….
It’s like training for the Olympics…you have to peak at the right moment….
Or attempting Everest…you have to acclimatize yourself to the rarefied atmosphere….
Ok, stop laughing!!
I’m only slightly joking
But that’s the excuse I’m going to use anyway
Seriously though, it’s been a funny old week so far….
Something is missing……I can’t quite put my finger on it….but it is….
Oh well…either it will come back or it won’t….nothing I can do about it really….other than go with the flow….
Some things in life you can’t control….you have to learn to let go otherwise you’d go completely crazy trying to control the uncontrollable
It’s like that prayer goes:
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”
Knowing the difference is the key….
My fellow blogger Little Lady had something similar on her blog earlier in the week which says basically the same thing, at least to my mind:
[post 2928458]
I guess the point is…it’s not the end of the world…life goes on regardless of any problems or issues, real or perceived, that we may have.
My thought is that by displaying how you feel right now whether it’s via blog, email, social feed post or whatever….that’s probably not how you’ll feel in an hour…or a day…or a week later….
I mean look at me…my moods are up and down like a toilet seat….as are most people’s….
I’m tired…so I get bitchy….
I’m hungry…so I get grouchy….
I’m horny…so I get distracted…
I can go through 50,000 different emotions in the course of a day…..easily lol
Imagine if I subjected you all to that?
Your head would be spinning lol
Yet it doesn’t take much to cheer me up
A comment, an email, a phone call, reading something, hearing a great song……that can turn things around in a heartbeat….then I’d have to do a whole new blog about how happy I am lmfao
Just someone saying something nice will do it
And I can guarantee that you all have someone who will do that for you……if you just let them...
The trick is to be near enough to them when you’re feeling down that they can do that for you when you need it.

Hello everyone!
It’s almost upon us….
“What is??” you say…
The concert event of the year in Winnipeg (as far as I’m concerned at least )…..The Wall!!
Ok, so it’s not Pink Floyd….but it IS Roger Waters….pretty close second I’d say
For those of you not really interested, this is a BIG DEAL
And it’s a particularly big deal for me…since The Wall is basically my favourite complete album of all time
Those of you who have been reading my blog over the last month or so will realize why I identify so closely with this particular album….
Musically, it’s an incredible piece of work, especially when you realize that it is almost entirely Roger Waters’ conception, with a couple of co-credits from Gilmour and one from producer Bob Ezrin.
As with all Pink Floyd works, you get the feeling that each note, each phrase, has been weighed and measured and contemplated and deemed “correct”…there’s nothing “thrown together” about their stuff, amazing considering half their stuff came from jamming around and experimenting just playing to see what comes out…
Sonically, the production stands up to anything else ever recorded…Floyd were always at the forefront when it came to technology and the “sound” it can produce and the CD versions sound amazing….
It’s one of few 70’s albums that stands the test of time…it doesn’t sound dated at all, unlike the 80’s Pink Floyd albums without Roger Waters, and of course the themes are universal, another reason for it’s continued popularity.
But why do I love it so much?
Well, as a young pup of 6 years old, I had nightmares….because of this album lmao
The single “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 went to number one in Britain that Christmas…..
You know the one….”We don’t need no education…..”
EVERYBODY knows THAT one lol
Unless you REALLY aren’t interested (in which case you probably didn’t read this far ), there is a complete movie made of the album starring a young(ish) Bob Geldof, and of course the “music video” was just really taking off (pre MTV days for all you young folks ), so the video for the single was lifted from the movie version and played on Top Of The Pops on the BBC….pre MTV remember?? lol
Dammit but those marching hammers gave me nightmares!! Lmao
And that's not to mention these:
Luckily I was too young to know what THESE were
It’s one of those songs that sticks in your head, gets in there and forgets to come out again lol
Funny thing is, there can’t be more than five different lines of lyrics in the song, yet it captured the imagination of everyone…classic
The themes involved, the idea of “The Wall” you build around yourself, the feeling of isolation and alienation speak to the dark corners of my soul…..
It’s a warning more than anything else…..a reminder of what could happen….
Makes you realize that everything that happens to you is a brick in the wall….and if you’re not careful before you know it you are enclosed with no way out….
The moral? Always leave a gate
You’d think that being the way I am, that this would be the absolute LAST thing I’d want to be listening to lmao
I've heard it described as "wrist slitting" music
Yet it’s one of the few double albums I actually listen to at one sitting
So tomorrow night is the big night
I can’t wait
So if you thought you, might like to, go to the show.... To feel the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow...
I believe there might be tickets left for the Friday night show....Thursday night sold out right away
It's worth the money...this isn't just a show...it's an EVENT
Years from now people will ask "Did you see The Wall live??"
Ok...maybe that's stretching it
But even if you don't like Pink Floyd particularly....it's still worth seeing
Anyone remember the all star show from Berlin when the Berlin Wall came down???
Let's face it....you might never get another chance to see it with Roger Waters.....
So if you aren’t going to the show...…go get the album or the movie instead and listen to it all the way through and pretend you’re there In The Flesh And keep this in mind:
No man is an island…unless his name is Madagascar

To blog or not to blog?
That is the question of the day…..
I’m bitchy today….for no apparent reason
It might be the weather, it might be something else….buggered if I know…
At times like this I tend to retreat into myself, probably because that’s the place I can do the least damage lol
I have a tendency to get evil…I say nasty things I don’t really mean and think the worst of people, their actions and omissions and their motives….
I think we all do this at some point…….take out our frustrations on the people around us…
And that’s not really me….it’s like having an Evil Twin….
The “Inside” you that thinks all the bad stuff you’d never ever say out loud….or most of us wouldn’t at least…lol
Of course, sometimes it’s better if you get it all out…in whatever fashion makes you happy…after all your REAL friends will forgive you if you're honest with them
For some people it’s all around nastiness to other people, others work out, others blast music or go for a long fast drive….
Like I said….whatever makes you happiest lol
It’s never a good thing to bottle everything up….that only leads to self analysis….and that’s rarely a good thing when you’re already in that kind of mood….trust me on this
The thing is, most of us have someone who is only too glad to listen, who is willing to help shoulder the burden (whether it’s real or imaginary) if only we’d think to ask….
The sad thing is….we don’t ask….or don’t accept even when it’s offered.
It’s such a simple thing…just say “I’m having a shitty day…can you listen to me for a bit, I need to get this off my chest”, but few of us do it for fear of being seen as whiny or complaining or needy….
It's not whiny or needy to say "this is how I feel right now" if the person you're talking to actually cares about you....
Anyway…..
So should I blog or not?
I’m thinking since I already am…I might as well lol
I made the comment this morning that I should really keep myself to myself today…because I’ll only end up pissing someone off today or upsetting them or something
I was told to go ahead anyway ….lol
I guess they thought they were safe from the firing line or something lmao
So if I happen to offend anyone today…it’s ok….don’t worry about it
I have an illness…..or so I’m told….
It’s called Moody Bastarditis.
It only affects men apparently….
I think I should start a support group….
“I am Spudsy1000, and I am a moody bastard”

So....
I’m in the mood to have some young lady savage me like a jungle beast.....
I’d like her to go all starving tiger on me….. rawwwrrrr
Lol
I’m thinking animal print undies and an animalistic desire….
Doesn’t that sound fantastic??
It does to me lol
*sigh*
My inner tiger has returned with a vengeance….and it’s hungrier than ever lol
That’s actually a pretty good descriptor… “starving tiger”
In my mind it conjures up an image of hot, sweaty, clawing, hungry sex……
Passion is an underrated aphrodisiac in my opinion….
Having a partner who WANTS you and lets you know it is such a turn on for me
Two people of the same mindset feed off each other’s desire….it’s not just about the physical act itself, good as it can be…
That feeling of desiring and being desired in return is like an endless feedback loop of electrical intensity which can’t be duplicated if you’re just “going through the motions”.
Two people like that, who both enjoy sex to the utmost , and WANT each other, cause sparks to fly when they get together.
Note the distinction between want and WANT
It’s the difference between “I’d like to be with her (or him)” and “I NEED to be with her (or him)”
It’s way more than mere physicality, and stems from mental engagement, a being “in tune”…
See? You knew I couldn’t get through a whole post without a musical reference somewhere
LMAO
Where else could I indulge both my passions at the same time?? Only here…
I mean, if you try it at Karaoke people look at you funny
But that’s all beside the point
So here’s the end result:
I’m on the lookout for a girl with a little tiger in her…who want’s a little MORE tiger in her
Geez…the things that go through my head sometimes LMAO

I’m just an average, ordinary, everyday dude. Like a fire needs flame, I burn for you. You flash your bedroom eyes like a jumping jack…
You got it, but are you getting it?
You’re a mystery, always running wild. Do with me what you will, break the spell and take your fill. Cause I get hysteria, when you’re near.
So wild and free, so far from me – you’re all I want, my fantasy.
And I want, and I need, and I love….animal…
Drive me crazier:
No serenade, no fire brigade just a pyromania.
Come and get it on, demolition woman can I be your man?
Squeeze a little, squeeze a little, squeeze a little more…
Some time, anytime….sugar me!
So grab a little heat and come along with me… Put your hurt on me if you dare… Such a woman, you’ve got style….
You got the peaches, I’ve got the cream…. Sweet to taste…saccharine….
I suppose a rock’s out of the question?
I got to feel it in my blood….. Heaven knows I’m sick and tired of dancing with this broom.
So do you wanna get rocked?
Do you wanna get rocked??
Well c’mon…

Hey there everyone!
I heard this song on the radio this morning and thought "What a delightfully inappropriate blog title", given today's subject matter lol
It's going to be a bit of a mixed bag today, so bear with me, will you?
Might as well get the funny out of the way first
This falls under both the "You know you're old when..." dept AND the "WTF???" dept....
I was at a meeting this morning....probably 20 guys or so in attendance... There comes an knocking at the door... "There is a knocking without.." I think... "Without what?" I reply to myself..
(That was a little semi-Shakespearean style humour for Charmer's benefit just to keep him interested and generally raise the cultural tone of my blog )
Anyway....there's a knock at the door and in stroll two young ladies bearing gifts...
"Gifts?" you say... "Gifts." I reply...
As it turns out the girls were from Hooters...delivering FREE wings....some kind of promotion I suppose....and here comes the "WTF??" part....
It's 10am....
Lunchtime I could understand.....if the meeting was held next door to their location I could understand...
Maybe it's just me but I thought "WTF??" lol
Then there is the "You know you're old when...." part...
They looked about 12 to me...... amp;
Sorry, but that's just gross....
*sigh*
Ok then....next!
Now for the more serious stuff....
Yesterday's post struck a chord it seems.....much in the same way my "confession" did...
Actually, it surprised the hell out of me....lol I'm not given to "deep and meaningful" usually, certainly not in here at least
There were a couple of comments that really struck me deeply...I'm not going to name names or anything so don't panic
But it made me realise that I'm not just talking to myself here...or providing some fleeting entertainment value as you pass through...
It's humbling to realise that sometimes I might say something that touches one of you...or helps one of you have a little insight into something in your own life or the life of someone close to you.
Wow...talk about pressure
lol
I write the way I speak, and the way I think...there's nothing "put on" here...this is about as close to being inside my head as you're ever likely to get without a drill and a hacksaw
But the thing that REALLY got me was a message I received....
I won't go into detail because...let's face it...it's none of your damn business
It actually brought a tear to my eye...got a little choked up...
Yeah Yeah....I know what you're thinking..."you big jessie you"....
That's a little scottish expression which effectively means "you're such a girl"
But it did, and it was very special to me....
And I think we'll leave it at that....
Perhaps (ab)normal service will be resumed shortly...I think I've filled my "deep and meaningful" quota for this year lol
See what happens tomorrow......

Hello everyone !
Another Wednesday already, huh?
Man the time flies by…
So what is the mood like this week?
So so, I think is the expression
Neither up nor down really….sort of in between I guess lol
Which isn’t a bad thing sometimes lol Beats the down anyway
See? Always a silver lining if you look hard enough lol
Which is something we probably don’t do enough…..
We always seem to get caught up and fixate on the bad stuff in our lives rather than have a look and appreciate the good stuff…small as it seems at the time….
For one thing…you can never have too many friends….or at least GOOD friends…the kind that stick by you no matter what…the kind that accept you in SPITE of your flaws and foibles
We tend to take them for granted…forgetting how much we appreciate their being there and how valuable they are to us…..
It’s the little things they do….asking how we’re doing or remembering a birthday or just listening while we vent…
We forget to say how much that means…and of course a true friend doesn’t actually care if you express that or not…but it’s nice to hear once in a while
I was just sitting here typing this and the Golden Girls theme song just started running through my head lmao
Thank you for being a friend Travel down the road and back again your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant And if you threw a party, Invited everyone you knew, You would see the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say, Thank you for being a friend.
Dammit…I could have just posted that and not had to type a blog at all
That pretty much says it all lol
Maybe we should take the chance today and just thank someone who has been there for you when you needed a helping hand, or a shoulder to cry on or just listened when you needed to talk….
Maybe they made you smile when you were down or just kept you in their thoughts when you were going through some rough times…..
Those kind of friends don’t come around too often in your life…appreciate them when they do……
All you have to do is say “I’m glad you’re my friend”…it’ll make their day
Ok that’s enough sappiness for one day
Back to the sex!! LMFAO
Man, I've got to stop listening to country music lmao
Damn "Blue Jeans and A Rosary" anyway.....
